Matias

       Aston University
School of Engineering and Applied Science PhD Studentship (3
       years)

Using next generation computers and algorithms for modelling the
       dynamics of large biomolecular systems

Applications are invited for a three year PhD studentship,
supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research
Council (EPSRC) to be undertaken within the Non-linearity and
Complexity Research Group at Aston University.  The successful
applicant will join an established theoretical group working on
the theory and implementation of molecular dynamics simulations.
The studentship is offered as a part of a Consortium consisting
of 5 research groups (Aston University, Cambridge University,
RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science, Japan,
Moscow Institute of Nuclear Safety, University of Osaka) and
funded by the G8 Research Councils Initiative on Multilateral
       Research.

The position is available to start in July 2011 (subject to
       negotiation)

       Financial Support

Will be provided to Home/EU students (subject to eligibility) at
the standard EPSRC rate (£13,590 for 2010/11) with the
corresponding standard EPSRC increases in subsequent years.

       Background of the Project

The project is devoted to the theory of high performance
molecular dynamics simulations and their application to large
scale protein systems.  The emphasis of this research will be on
developing an algorithm for hybrid MD – hydrodynamics
simulations and its application to a large scale biomolecular
process such as ligand-protein binding. The work will be done in
close collaboration with the Department of Engineering,
Cambridge University, with whom you will have daily contact.
Testing and implementation will be using the fastest computer in
the world at RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science,
       Kobe, Japan.
