Dear all,

Please find below information regarding two calls for postdoctoral
positions at the Physics Department of Università di Torino, within the ERC
Starting Grant group OPPIWaM (Oceanic Physics-based Parameterizations of
Internal Wave-driven Mixing).

*Position 1: Theoretical/numerical aspects (Code 05/POSTDOC)*
*Deadline: May 27, 2026*

The project focuses on the development of new analytical and numerical
techniques for the study of energy transfers in oceanic internal wave
fields, with particular reference to techniques of wave turbulence (or
wave-wave interactions) and geophysical fluid dynamics.
The activity covered by the contract will include the following tasks:
- developing and using a code for the solution of wave kinetic equations;
- developing reduced models with the aid of machine-learning techniques;
- the validation of the developed tools with oceanic data.
The activity may include the co-supervision of master’s degree students,
the collaboration in teaching graduate level classes, and public engagement
events to disseminate the results of the research.
Collaboration on teaching and third-mission activities, as well as
scientific productivity goals,
will be consistent with the funding proposal for the position.

*Position 2: Analysis of observations (Code 06/POSTDOC)*
*Deadline: **June 04,2026*

The project focuses on developing the analysis of ocean data of internal
wave fields and turbulent mixing, with particular reference to the
quantification of energy transfers.
The activity covered by the contract will in particular include the
following tasks:
- analysis of global and regional datasets coordinating with an
international network of collaborators;
- study of the global distribution of metrics of internal waves, mixing,
and internal-wave forcing processes, with clustering and machine learning
algorithms;
- development and support to the validation of new parameterizations of
mixing.
The activity may also include co-supervision of master’s degree students,
and collaboration to teaching graduate level classes and to public
engagement events to communicate the results of the research.
Collaboration on teaching and third-mission activities, as well as
scientific productivity goals, will be consistent with the funding proposal
for the position.

Initial appointment is of 2 years (+ 1 year possible extension) starting in
the fall of 2026, with a gross annual salary of €37500.
