I will describe some of our recent results
in the study of the DNA packaging motor of
bacteriophage Phi29, including its
impressive thermodynamic efficiency. This
is a feature that is common to many motors
of biological origin. I will then
speculate about the possible origin of
this energetic efficiency based on recent
results about energy dissipation. I will
end by describing the impressive
coordination among the different parts of
the packaging motor using high-spatial
resolution optical tweezers. </p>

La incorporación de la entropía de
entrelazamiento, así como otras medidas de
información, al conjunto de herramientas
disponibles para la descripción de las
teorías cuánticas de campos, resultó ser
una estrategia atractiva y relevante en
cuanto que no sólo provee nuevas tácticas
de cálculo sino una enriquecida
perspectiva de interpretación. Para
ilustrar lo anterior, describiré dos
problemas que a mi entender destacan la
potencia de esta comunión: por un lado, la
formulación de teoremas entrópicos sobre
la irreversibilidad del flujo del grupo de
renormalización y por otro, el rol de las
simetrías, globales y locales, en las
teorías cuánticas de campos. </p>

Thin films of azopolymer-nanoparticles
hybrid materials were fabricated with
poly[1-[4-(3-carboxy-4-hydroxyphenylazo)
benzenesulfonamido]-1,2-ethanediyl] (PAZO)
and different concentrations of Ag and
AgAu nanoparticles (NPs). By illuminating
the films with polarized interference
patterns, surface relief gratings (SRGs)
were recorded. It was found that for some
concentrations of NPs their modulations
and diffraction efficiency were higher
than the obtained for PAZO films without
NPs. The effect was mainly explained by
the increase of the free volume available
for the photoisomerization for certain

primer piso del Pabellón 1, integrado al
resto de los espacios de enseñanza. Va a
ser utilizado por estudiantes de Física,
Biología, Química, Geología, Atmósfera,
Paleontología, Oceanografía y los
profesorados en las distintas materias que
dicta el Departamento de Física. Gracias a
años de trabajo el DF armó este
laboratorio con equipamiento como
osciloscopios, generadores de funciones,
placas de adquisición, arduinos, etc.; asÍ
como compononentes para hacer circuitos
eléctricos y electrónicos que permiten
trabajar en grupos pequeños de dos o tres
estudiantes y así poveer una experiencia
de aprendizaje más eficaz. </p>

annual award consists of $1000 Brazilian

annual ICTP-SAIFR Workshop on Classical
Gravity and Applications. <br

advisor) will be accepted for any doctoral
student (present or past) in any country
in Latin America for work performed as
part of the requirements for a doctoral
degree. Nominees must have passed their
thesis defense not more than 18 months

April 30</strong> (i.e. defended their
thesis after October 31, 2019 and before
April 30, 2021). An individual can be
nominated only once; however, an
