RESUMEN:
 
Long-term dynamics of populations and their traits reflect the coupling
between ecological and evolutionary processes.  In this talk, I present an
overview of recent work that predicts evolution of organismal traits
within a variety of ecological contexts.  The applications are diverse and
include the study of evolution of dispersal in marine reserves, the
response of predator-size to changes in prey size, as well as the
coevolution of host-viral kinetics in continuous culture environments.
The methodology exploits fast-slow dynamics in these systems, bridging the
fields of population dynamics and evolutionary game theory.  Throughout
the talk, I show how outcomes of multi-scale models can contradict
predictions from models of ecological dynamics alone.
