Dear Colleagues,

please bring the following position to the attention of relevant postdocs
and completing graduate students.

*Postdoc Position in Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Materials and Molecules*

The newly commissioned Laboratory for Ultrafast Spectroscopy at the
University of Sydney is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to
undertake and coordinate day-to-day research in ultrafast spectroscopy. Our
current research interests straddle condensed phase materials and gas-phase
molecules and as such the position will suit a researcher with broad
experiences and interests. Materials characterization will be undertaken in
conjunction with the Third Generation Photovoltaics group within the Centre
of Excellence at the University of New South Wales (Gavin Conibeer -
http://www.pv.unsw.edu.au/research/advancedsilicon.asp) and molecular
experiments will be undertaken under the direction of the Laser Spectroscopy
Group at the University of Sydney (Tim Schmidt -
http://www.laserlab.chem.usyd.edu.au/). Molecular experiments range from
photodissociation dynamics of small radicals to ultrafast photophysics of
porphyrins and their conjugates (with Palli Thordarson, see
http://www.chem.usyd.edu.au/~thorda_p/).

Our new laboratory is equipped with a Clark-MXR fs laser pumping a pair of
Topas OPAs and we have recently purchased a fluorescence upconversion
spectrometer.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated mastery of  femtosecond
fluorescence up-conversion, or clear potential to master such experiments.
Prior experience in ultrafast spectroscopy is a necessity, and a PhD in one
or more of our target research areas is an advantage.

Researchers are usually hired for one year in the first instance, extendable
to 3 years. There are realistic opportunities for top-quality researchers to
become independent by obtaining personal funding from the University of
Sydney or The Australian Research Council. The salary (before Tax)
commences at Level A step 6

this is approximately $63,586.
