El miércoles 24 de octubre próximo, a las 15:00 hs., en el Departamento de
Computación dela Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad de
Buenos Aires,
Pabellón I de la Ciudad Universitaria (aula a designar),

Ricardo Baeza-Yates, Director de Yahoo! Research Barcelona, España y
Yahoo! Research Latin America Santiago, Chile dará una conferencia
titulada "Web Mining".

Ricardo Baeza-Yates es Director de Yahoo! Research Barcelona, España y
Yahoo! Research Latin America en Santiago, Chile. Hasta 2005 fue director
del Centro de Investigación de la Web en el Departamento de Ciencias de la
Computación de la Escuela de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Chile; y
catedrático ICREA en el Dept. de Tecnología de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra
en Barcelona, España. Mantiene vínculos con ambas universidades como
profesor jornada parcial. Sus intereses de investigación incluyen
algoritmos y estructuras de datos, recuperación de información, minería de
la Web, bases de datos de texto e imágenes, y visualización de software y
bases de datos.

Abstract:
The Web continues to grow and evolve very fast, changing our daily lifes.
This activity represents the collaborative work of the millions of
institutions and people that contribute content to the Web as well as the
one billion people that use it. In this ocean of hyperlinked data there is
explicit and implicit information and knowledge. Web Mining is the task of
analyzing this data and extracting information and knowledge for many
different purposes. The data comes in three main flavors: content (text,
images, etc.), structure (hyperlinks) and usage (navigation, queries,
etc.), implying different techniques such as text, graph or log mining.
Each case reflects the wisdom of some group of people that can be used to
make the Web better. In this talk we walk through this process and give
specific examples.
