Dear Colleagues,

Please see below for details of a PDRA position available at the University of
York for a period of up to five years.


Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in the group of Dr.
Caroline Dessent in the Department of Chemistry, University of York on a high-
profile research project funded by the European Research Council.  The
position will initially be for a period of two years, with funding being available
to support the post for a further three years.  The project involves the
development of new laser spectroscopy techniques (IR and UV/VIS) for
studying isolated gas-phase biological ions, using a custom-built electrospray
ionization mass spectrometer that incorporates cryogenic ion cooling.  The
spectrometer will therefore allow the study of a very wide range of
biomolecular systems and their hydrated clusters.

Applicants should be highly motivated and enthusiastic and have a PhD degree
in physical chemistry, chemical physics, biological physics or a related
discipline.  The project is ideally suited to those with experience in lasers,
spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry, and an interest in both instrumental
development and applications.

This position is available immediately with a starting salary of £28,152 per
annum.
