translational inelasticity in atom-surface collisions.

The successful candidate is likely to have experience with and/or
knowledge of:

ˇ Molecular Dynamics at Surfaces
ˇ Chemical reaction dynamics
ˇ Nano-second YAG-pumped dye laser based spectroscopy
ˇ Non-linear optics for generation of ultraviolet light including vacuum
ultraviolet light
ˇ Laser induced photochemistry
ˇ H-atom Rydberg tagging
ˇ Time-of-flight methods
ˇ Event counting as well as analogue detection methods
ˇ Lab-view programming
ˇ Fortran programming or equivalent
ˇ Ultra-high vacuum methods
ˇ Auger Electron Spectroscopy
ˇ Argon Ion sputtering
ˇ Instrument design concepts

The successful candidate will:

ˇ be a key member of the Dynamics at Surfaces Department
ˇ be responsible for performing original research in surface dynamics
ˇ grow a subgroup within the department focused on H-atom Rydberg
tagging surface scattering
ˇ write and submit proposals for expansion of the project as it advances
ˇ write papers describing the work accomplished
ˇ oversee doctoral, masters and bachelors students involved in the project
ˇ address day-to-day logistical issues in an independent fashion
