Subject: Postdoctoral Position in Biomolecular Dynamics

Dear All,

With apologies for cross-postings please see below details of a
post-doctoral opportunity in the Biomolecular Dynamics group at the
University of Strathclyde. I’d be grateful if you could pass this on to
anyone who may be interested.

Best wishes,

Neil Hunt

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Fixed term for a period of 3 years (Salary £29,099-£33,734)

STRATHCLYDE INSTITUTE OF PHARMACY AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES /DEPARTMENT OF
PHYSICS

Applications are invited for this joint position in the groups of Dr Paul
Hoskisson within the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical
Sciences, and Dr Neil Hunt within the Department of Physics.   Funded by The
Leverhulme Trust, the project will investigate interaction of drug targets
in bacteria with their drug ligands and in particular the role of hydrogen
bonding dynamics in the drug-binding process with a view to understanding
the detailed biochemical mechanisms involved. Employing advanced
multidimensional and time resolved infrared spectroscopy techniques to study
protein-ligand interactions in bacterial pathogens, the project will develop
powerful new protein labeling techniques for studying these interactions on
a residue-by-residue basis. It is anticipated that this work will feed into
ongoing drug-development work at Strathclyde.

Motivated and enthusiastic candidates with an interest in multidisciplinary
research are sought to join the Biomolecular Dynamics Group at Strathclyde.
A PhD (or equivalent) in biochemistry, biophysics, biological chemistry,
physical chemistry, molecular physics or a related discipline is required.
The project is ideally suited to those with experience in protein
biochemistry, infrared spectroscopy or time resolved/ultrafast spectroscopy.
Previous experience of supervision of research students would be
advantageous.

The Biomolecular Dynamics group at the University of Strathclyde is very
active and has wide-ranging interests from host-pathogen interactions
through to synthetic biology. There is a strong multidisciplinary and
collaborative ethos within the group, with links across the university
between biology, physics and chemistry, and within the UK and Europe. The
Hoskisson group is currently 4 people working on a range of microbiological
and biochemical problems in the actinobacteria. The Hunt group currently
consists of 10 people, including several cross-disciplinary appointments,
and specialises in applications of 2D-IR spectroscopy. The successful
applicant will work across the two groups and coordinate with other
multidisciplinary projects within the Biomolecular Dynamics group.
