  Job description

  The announced position is associated with the group for Advanced
Materials
  and Complex Systems, which is one of nine research groups at the
  Department of Physics.  A major research activity in the group is to
  investigate the time- and space-resolved electromagnetic behavior of
  superconducting materials, by combined use of experimental, theoretical
  and numerical methods. The successful candidate is expected to strengthen
  the experimental part of this activity.

  The main experimental technique used by the group is magneto-optical
  imaging (MOI), which allows real-time imaging of flux dynamics from the
  centimeter scale down to sub-micron, and from room temperature down to 4
  Kelvin. The group has also a crystal growth laboratory where
  state-of-the-art ferrite garnet films used as basic sensor for MOI are
  produced. Based on experiments with MOI we have in recent years studied;
  -Â  Â  Â  Â  Magnetic instabilities in superconducting films and crystals
  -Â  Â  Â  Â  Electromagnetic connectivity of joints between bulk
superconductors
  -Â  Â  Â  Â  Manipulation of vortices and magnetic particles using mobile
domain
  walls in ferrite garnets, to give some examples.

  The successful candidate is expected to contribute to work in these and
  related directions. Moreover, the new staff member should contribute
  significantly to expanding the research into new topics, in particular by
  means of experimental techniques based on scanning magnetic probes, which
  offer higher spatial resolution. The group already has a low-temperature
  scanning micro-Hall probe microscope available (although not yet set in
  operation).
