The South America Center for Astronomy is one of the first overseas
research institutions set up by the Chinese Academy of Sciences to promote
collaborative work with astronomers in Chile and other South American
countries. It supports visiting students and scholars and offers postdoc
fellowships in coordination with Chilean research institutions. In the
future, it will also focus on studying the scientific potentials and
feasibilities of building large ground-based observing facilities by China
in the Southern Hemisphere. In this talk I will explain the mission and
near term tasks of our Center, and discuss possible future research
programs and opportunities with Argentinian colleagues.
