The BE-OPTICAL network invites applications for 14 PhD positions in
biomedical optical imaging and data analysis, funded by the European
Union within the framework of the project BE-OPTICAL. BE-OPTICAL is a
Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network aimed at providing
a unique and structured training programme to 14 PhD students in a
wide range of optical imaging technologies and signal processing
tools.
For information about the PhD positions, watch our 4-min video:

For more information: http://beoptical.eu
The positions available at: Barcelona and Terrassa (Spain); Gottinger
and Berlin (Germany); Torun (Poland); Paris (France); St. Andrews and
Glasglow (UK).
Keywords: photonics, biophotonics, fluorescence spectroscopy and
microscopy, optical coherence tomography (OCT), optogenetics,
engineered nanomaterials, lasers and light sources, data analysis and
signal processing tools.
The training programme will provide the PhD students with a broad
understanding of how state of the art optical imaging technologies and
data processing tools work, and will open for them a wide range of job
opportunities. The students will apply this knowledge to advance the
early diagnosis of highly significant diseases (cardiac arrhythmias,
glaucoma). The students will also gain insight into clinical studies
of novel imaging technologies and the commercialization process.
Top-level graduates in physics, engineering or computer science are
encouraged to apply. No discrimination will be made on the basis of
nationality, gender, race, religion or disability. BE-OPTICAL aims at
increasing the fraction of woman in science and female candidates are
particularly encouraged to apply.
Benefits: three-year full-time contract benefits are offered,
including social security, etc. The 14 PhD positions are based in
lively cities (Barcelona, Berlin, Gottingen, Paris, etc.) that offer a
wide variety of cultural events; the students will register in
top-level PhD programs that will provide them access to language
courses, sport facilities, social activities, etc. The universities
have specialised international welcome offices that will provide the
students with the necessary support for their first steps (visa help,
health insurance, language courses, accommodation, etc.).
Marie-Sklodowska-Curie funding imposes the following eligibility
conditions: at the time of recruitment the researcher must not have
resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc…) in
the country of the host institute (for example, if applying for a
position in Germany, he/she must not have been a resident in Germany
for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her
recruitment under the project). The researcher also should have less
than 4 years of research experience, measured from the date he/she
obtained the degree which formally entitles him/her to embark on a PhD
program.
