Resumen


 

In this talk I will give a short introduction about German non-university
research. I will refer to the areas of surface treatment, plasma medicine
and plasma source development in my Institute, the INP Greifswald, and
specifically to my own project. 

Plasma sources for medical applications are usually expensive and
inconvenient due to big dimensions or the need of special infrastructure.
Our approach is to design a plasma source which will not only solve these
problems, but which can also be mass produced at comparatively small costs.
In this presentation I will show an overview about the whole development
process from Idea to Market of such a device.

A main aspect of this process was the choice of materials for the dielectric
barrier, responsible of required voltage, system capacity and user security.
Due to medical restrictions we estimated the production of harmful
degradation products in the widely used fluoropolymers.

We have used VUV-Spectroscopy to look in-vivo after the creation of the ArF
excimer as a relative indicator of degradation processes. We studied two
possible solutions to reduce harmful degradation products: defluorisation of
the surface and lowering the overall system energy by electrode design.
