"QUBIC: The QU Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology"

One of the most exciting challenges of modern cosmology is the search for
a primordial gravitational waves. Such tensor perturbations of the fabric
of spacetime are predicted to be produced at the end of inflation and to
leave an imprint on the Cosmic Microwave Background polarization through
the production of odd-parity patterns known as B-modes. A number of
projects throughout the world are engaged in the search fro these B-modes.
We are constructing QUBIC, a novel instrumental concept based on the idea
of a bolometric interferometer: combining the exquisite sensitivity of
arrays of Transition-Edge-Sensors with an unprecedented ability to control
instrumental systematic effects thanks to the observation of interference
fringes. I will describe the QUBIC instrumental concept and technical
implementation as well as the data analysis techniques we are developing
that are specific to Bolometric Interferometry. We are currently
constructing the first QUBIC module, operating at 150 and 220 GHz in order
to remove contamination from Galactic dust foregrounds, but we envision
evolutions of QUBIC with modules at multiple frequencies in order to reach
the ultimate sensitivity of a Stage-IV experiment at the ~2020 horizon.
