                  Characterization of exoplanet atmospheres.

As our Solar System planets reveal, the formation and composition of a
planetary atmosphere depends mainly on the evolutionary history of the
planet, the distance to the host star, and the position in the
proto-planetary disk in which the planet formed. Thus, by studying the
exoplanet atmospheres we can probe exoplanet formation and evolution. In
this context, primary transits present a unique opportunity to study the
properties of the exoplanet atmospheres. During these events, a fraction
of the stellar light passes through the optically thin part of the
planetary atmosphere, picking up spectral features from it. Till date,
only a few transiting exoplanet atmospheres have been characterized in
detail. Examples are HD-209458b, HD-189733b, GJ-436b, and GJ-1214b. The
first lesson learned is that exoplanet atmospheres are diverse. However,
this is based on a small number of statistics. In this talk I will give a
breve introduction on the topic and I will show you the work I have done
so far on the hot Jupiters WASP-33b, Qatar-1b, HAT-P-19b and
HAT-P-12b.
