"The Activity of Stars and their Impact on Planets"
  Dr. Dibyendu Nandi (Center of Excellence in Space Sciences, India)

Abstract: Our experience from the solar system shows that stars like
the Sun have variable activity output which controls the
electromagnetic, particulate and radiation environment of planets such
as the Earth. On the one hand, short-term solar variations define
space weather which impacts our space-based technologies. On the other
hand, long-term variations ranging from centuries to stellar
evolutionary timescales influence planetary climates and atmospheres
and determine their ability to host life. In this talk I shall discuss
our current understanding of physical processes that causally connect
stellar activity to their impact on planets and habitability.
