Buenas tardes, 

Tenemos el agrado de invitarlos al próximo coloquio del Instituto de Astronomía y Física del Espacio (IAFE). El mismo se llevará a cabo el mi ércoles 25/6 a las 14hs en el aula de nuestro instituto. 
El ingreso puede realizarse 10 minutos antes del inicio, por orden de llegada y hasta la capacidad máxima del aula. Para quienes no puedan acercarse al mismo, pueden participar de manera virtual por Google Meet.

Binary Stars, Jovian Satellites, and Asteroids 
Dr. Xianming Han (*) 
Department of Physics and Astronomy, Butler University, Indianapolis, EEUU 

Resumen: 
Most stars are actually in pairs or triplets. Observing binary stars helps develop stellar evolution theories. If their orbital plane of a binary star system is more or less parallel to the line of sight, one star will block the other as they orbit around each other. This is known as eclipsing binary. In this talk, we will discuss observations of eclipsing binary star systems and what information we can extract from their lightcurves. We will also discuss observations of Jovian satellites and asteroids using our SARA (Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy) and Holcomb telescopes.

Education: 

1978-1982, Department of Physics, University of Science and Technology of China, undergraduate student. 

1982: BS in Physics 

1982-1983, Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, graduate student. 

1983-1989, Department of Physics, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, USA, graduate student. 

1986: MS in Physics 

1989: Ph.D in Physics 




Work experience: 

1989-1991: Department of Physics, University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho, USA, visiting assistant professor. 

1991-present: assistant professor, associate professor, and professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Astronomer affiliated with the Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy (SARA). From 2008 to 2017, served as the department chair.
