Regional Gridded Altimetry on the Southwestern Atlantic Continental
Shelf
Marie-Christin Juhl, DGFI-TUM (Technical University of Munich)

Satellite altimetry has provided unique insights into ocean variability
for more than 30 years, with an increasing number of missions. Gridded
altimetry products are developed globally to maximize their utility,
creating new opportunities for understanding oceanography and climate
change. However, current gridded sea level anomalies (SLAs) are limited
at smaller scales due to several factors, including satellite
constellations and repeat cycles, but also global gridding approaches
that do not fully capture regional dynamics. Focusing on the latter, we
analyzed global gridded SLA data from altimetry on the Southwestern
Continental Shelf. We developed a regional gridding strategy,
demonstrating promising improvements in representing SLAs and derived
geostrophic velocities. Various in-situ data sources, such as bottom
pressure recorders and ADCPs, are now being used to explore the benefits
of shelf-adapted gridded data to validate these regional grids.

Miss Juhl is a Ph.D. student from the German Geodetic Research Institute
of the Technical University of Munich (DGFI-TUM,
https://www.dgfi.tum.de/en/) with a focus on gridded satellite altimetry
data and their applications. Her academic background includes a
Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Heidelberg and a
Master's degree in Ocean and Climate Physics from the University of
Hamburg. Currently, she has the opportunity to work as a guest student
in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, driven by my
research on the Southwestern Continental Shelf.

¡¡Les esperamos!!
