justify;">Para poder sobrevivir
las células necesitan
comunicarse con el medio que las
rodea. Deben ser capaces de
percibir cambios en su entorno y
reaccionar a los mismos. En una
gran cantidad de circunstancias
esos cambios se manifiestan en
modificaciones en la
concentración de
sustancias.Podemos pensar
entonces que hay un mensaje
cifrado en ese cambio, mensaje
que las células deben poder
descifrar. Para ello poseen
receptores en su membrana
capaces de ligar estas
sustancias. Al ligarlas se
inducen modificaciones hacia el
interior celular constituyendo
el primer paso de una cascada de
señalización que permitirá
transmitir el mensaje y generar
la respuesta necesaria.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"

justify;">Los cambios “hacia
adentro” pueden incluir la
producción de nuevas sustancias
o la liberación de otras desde
reservorios internos. Estas
sustancias, a las que se llama
mensajeros, difunden en la
célula y actúan en receptores u
otros blancos intracelulares. Es
por ello que se habla de
“cascada” ya que el cambio
inicial induce una secuencia
encadenada de cambios. Los
mensajeros difunden durante un
tiempo y hasta una cierta
distancia, es decir, tienen un
rango de acción que los
caracteriza. Este rango
determina sobre qué blancos
intracelulares pueden actuar y,
por lo tanto, qué tipos de
respuestas pueden inducir. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"

justify;">Conocer estos rangos
permite comprender procesos
fisiológicos específicos. Entre
los múltiples mensajeros
existentes, el ión calcio es
utilizado en una enorme cantidad
de procesos distintos.</p>
