Title: EIsosomes show the door: The discovery of static sites of
endocytosis in yeast.
Breve descripcion del trabajo:
The plasma membrane is a highly dynamic structure that is constantly
remodeled by membrane transport events. Exocytosis mediates the
delivery of lipids and proteins to the surface for cell growth,
communication, and secretion of cargos. Endocytosis balances the
delivery of membrane, is essential for the uptake of nutrients and
pathogens, and mediates the regulation of receptors and transporters.
To maintain a functional plasma membrane of appropriate composition
at homeostasis, the cell constantly balances endocytosis and
exocytosis to compensate for changes in the environment or growth phase.
We recently discovered large protein assemblies, which we call
³eisosomes², that lay underneath the plasma membrane in the yeast S.
cerevisiae. Our experiments indicate that eisosomes function as
static ³endocytic portals² that determine when and where endocytic
events initiate. The discovery of eisosomes raises many intriguing
questions, which I intend to address in my group. How do eisosomes
affect and regulate endocytosis? How are they targeted to specific
sites at the plasma membrane and assembled there?
Tobi esta buscando estudiantes de doctorado y/o postdoctorado. Abajo
les pasteo 2 avisos al respecto. Los interesados, si quieren, pueden
hablar con el directamente mañana.
