Abstract:
I summarize the scientific rationale for, and our progress toward,
the development of the Dedicated Interferometer for Rapid
Variability (DIRV), a two-element radio interferometer under construction
at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (North Carolina, USA).
Once completed, DIRV will observe extragalactic radio sources to
characterize the turbulence of ionized clouds in the interstellar medium
and search for extreme scattering events.
