Resumen


 

Plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) has been around for more than 25
years. Nevertheless, there still is current research interest focusing on
plasma properties as well as surface characteristics. Homogeneity in PIII is
rather straight forward when starting from homogenous, static plasma from
gaseous precursors. In contrast, generating ions from a solid leads to
problems with the ionisation efficiency as well as homogeneity and
directional control. Furthermore, conventional diagnostics present
limitations, which can be overcome by non-conventional probes. On the
surface side, synergistic effects during deposition are necessary and most
welcome. As a special point, the self-organised formation of nanostructures,
avoiding the problems associated with top-down approaches is gaining more
and more prominence and applications, ranging from optics to biomaterials.
